Action for Autism is a not for profit organization that pioneered the autism movement in South Asia, and strives to access the rights of individuals with autism and their families. AFA is involved in lifespan activities including early intervention, education, assessments, work and employment, independent living, as well as awareness, advocacy and research.
AFA started ‘Open Door’ a specialist school in 1994 responding to the needs of thousands parents who needed to access the specialized expertise and services available to teach their children with autism.
The other programs on Education and Trainings are mentioned below:
1. Assessments: Diagnostic, Functional Skills, and Occupational and Sensory
2. Intervention Programs: Open Door Day Program, Parent Child Training Programme, Educational Intervention Programme, Bubbles Social Communication Program, Handwriting Programme, Centre-based Programme for Home Management, Occupational and Sensory Intervention
3. Program for Adults: Aadhaar Vocational Centre, Employment Readiness Programme, On The Job Training Programme, Providing Support At The Place Of Employment, Assisted Living Services
4. Family Support Services: Family Counselling, Respite Care
Research
AFA has been participating in many collaborative research projects with the Government of India and other reputed organizations, as well as provides support to visiting scholars from various universities in India and abroad.
Training on D.Ed and B.Ed Spl Ed Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Customized trainings
AFA offers two course in D.Ed and B.Ed in ASD recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) to train special educators in autism. AFA also provides short and customized trainings for the parents and professionals.
Awareness Raising and Lobbying
AFA raises awareness through art exhibitions, events and through popular media articles. AFA has been successfully lobbying and included autism in The National Trust Bill and Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill (RPWD).
