Vidyanikethan, (Society for Education and Social development) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1988 to improve the lives and livelihoods of individuals and families, especially children and women, from low income groups and from the vulnerable, marginalized and under-developed sections of the society. Based in Bangalore, (India) Vidyanikethan interventions in four key areas - health, socioeconomic development, education and environment - facilitate and provide opportunities to the needy by creating awareness about relevant issues, and enhancing their access to improved lives and livelihoods

Women, Children, Commercial Sex-workers & their children, Dalits, Landless Laborers, Marginal Farmers, Migrants, Hacker’s children, Unemployed Youths, Child Laborers, School Dropouts, Slum and rag pickers, waste segregation children are the target groups and beneficiaries.

In the education sector, the work includes improving the reach and quality of primary education, motivating parents to enrol their children in early childhood educational programmes and health care services based on preventative care, facilitating treatment by referrals, organizing health camps and sensitization programmes. In addition, it organizes tree plantation drives, eco-friendly practices such as eco-sanitation, Rain Water Harvesting, watershed programmes etc. in environment. The socio-economic programme includes mobilizing the under-privileged women into self-help groups, facilitating vocational skills development programmes and linkages to financial institutions to arrange loans for self-employment enterprises.
